Privacy Policy

Written by Bela B., editor at PicksIQ

This Privacy Policy explains how PicksIQ collects, uses, and protects information about you when you visit the site or create an account. PicksIQ is operated by BNS Media Productions Ltd (Company No. 14659811), a company registered in England and Wales. We act as the data controller for personal data collected through picksiq.com.

We have written this policy in plain English. If anything here is unclear, email us at support@picksiq.com and we will explain. Our aim is to be honest about what we collect and to collect as little as possible.

1. Information we collect

The data we hold falls into a few clear buckets.

Account information. When you register, we collect an email address, a username, and the country flag you choose (or that we auto-detect from your IP). You can add an optional display name and avatar on the settings page. We never ask for, and do not store, real-money payment details unless you subscribe to PicksIQ Premium (in which case Stripe handles the card details on our behalf and we only receive a customer ID).

Activity data. Every bet you place on the simulator, every leaderboard ranking, every comment, follow, and notification preference is stored against your account. This is the core of the service and you cannot opt out of it while keeping the account active.

Technical data. Our web server records your IP address, user agent, referrer, and the pages you load. Server logs are retained for fourteen days for abuse prevention, security investigation, and capacity planning, then rotated and deleted automatically.

Cookies and similar technologies. See our dedicated Cookie Policy for the full list of cookies we set and why.

2. How we use your data

  • To create and run your account, store your bet history, and calculate your leaderboard position
  • To send you account emails (welcome, password reset, prize notifications, optional alerts you opt into)
  • To detect and block fraud, scraping, multi-accounting, and other abuse of the platform
  • To improve PicksIQ by analysing which features get used and where users get stuck
  • To comply with our legal obligations, including tax, fraud, and dispute requirements

3. Legal basis for processing

Under the UK GDPR we rely on one of four legal bases for each piece of processing.

  • Contract. Running your account and the betting simulator is necessary to provide the service you signed up for.
  • Legitimate interests. Security, fraud prevention, service-level analytics, and the day-to-day running of the site rely on legitimate interests. We weigh these against your rights and only collect the minimum needed.
  • Consent. Non-essential cookies, marketing emails, and personalised advertising rely on your explicit opt-in. You can withdraw consent at any time via the cookie banner or your account settings.
  • Legal obligation. Tax records, anti-fraud cooperation, and lawful requests from authorities.

4. Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We do share specific information with the third-party providers who make the service work.

  • Stripe (Stripe Payments Europe Ltd). If you subscribe to Premium, Stripe processes your payment. We never see your card details.
  • Tremendous, Inc. Monthly leaderboard prize winners receive gift cards via Tremendous. We share the winner's email and prize amount so Tremendous can issue the card.
  • Google AdSense. If and when ads are shown, Google may set cookies on your device to serve relevant ads and measure performance. We only enable AdSense for visitors who consent via our cookie banner.
  • API-Football. Provides the underlying fixtures, odds, and statistics. We send no personal data to API-Football; the data flow is one way, into our database.
  • Anthropic, OpenAI and Ollama models. Our AI Take feature passes match-level facts (fixture, form, odds) to the language model that generates the preview. No user identifiers are sent.
  • Hostinger. Our hosting provider, which physically stores the database and serves the site.

5. International transfers

Some of our processors (notably Stripe, Tremendous, Anthropic, and OpenAI) are based outside the UK and EEA. Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on the UK Adequacy Regulations, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or equivalent safeguards as required by UK GDPR Article 46.

6. How long we keep your data

  • Account and bet history: for as long as the account is active
  • Closed accounts: deleted within 30 days of your verified deletion request, except where we need to retain limited records for tax or anti-fraud reasons (up to 7 years)
  • Server access logs: 14 days, then rotated and deleted
  • Backup snapshots: 30 days
  • Email logs (delivery and bounces): 12 months

7. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to our processing of your data, and the right to data portability. To exercise any of these, email support@picksiq.com from the address linked to your account. We will respond within 30 days.

If you believe we have mishandled your personal data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. We would prefer you raise the issue with us first so we can put it right, but you are not obliged to.

8. Security

Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and never stored in plain text. The site is served over HTTPS only, with HSTS headers. Our database runs on an isolated network with restricted access, and we run continuous attack monitoring and rate limiting at the edge. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take the basics seriously and review them regularly.

9. Children

PicksIQ is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has registered an account, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be flagged on the site or by email to registered users. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
